William L. Coleman has been managing Zavanna’s growth and strategic direction since its formation in 1994.  In 1981, Bill founded Prairie Petroleum, Inc. (“Prairie”), to market oil and gas prospects in the Williston and Powder River Basins.  Prairie was the foundation for Zavanna.

Bill received his B.A. in Economics from Duke University in 1973 and his M.B.A. from Tulane University in 1978.  He began his career as a Landman with Atlantic Richfield in 1975 working in its Denver, Dallas and Midland offices.  In 1979, he moved to Aminol USA in Houston to work the offshore Gulf Coast and moved on to become a Division Land Manager for the Rocky Mountains.

Jerrold n. mayer-advisor to the board of directors

Jerrold N. Mayer joined the Zavanna team in 1996.  He received his B.S. from North Dakota State University in 1976.  In 1979, he received his Masters from Utah State University.  Jerry began his career with Texaco as a Geologist in 1979.  In 1981, he moved to Cotton Petroleum as a Geologist to generate prospects throughout the Rockies, concentrating on the Williston Basin.  In 1986, he started as a Geologist with Apache Corporation and was promoted to Rocky Mountain Region Exploration Manager in 1989.

carole J. slinkard-chief financial officer

Carole J. Slinkard has been with Zavanna since its formation in August 1994.  She received her B.S. in Marketing from Southern Illinois University in 1976.  In 1985, she earned her Accounting Degree from Metropolitan State College of Denver and passed the C.P.A. exam in November 1985.  She held the Controller position at numerous companies in manufacturing before becoming involved in the oil and gas industry in 1992.  Carole brings extensive financial experience in the oil and gas industry and oversees all financial aspects of the company.

david hodges-chief operating officer

David Hodges joined Zavanna in August 2012 as the Senior Vice President of Operations and in August of 2015 became Chief Operating Officer. In this role, David is accountable for all aspects of Zavanna's day to day operations company wide. David is also a managing member of 1804 LTD-a Zavanna affiliate-which owns a natural gas processing facility in the state of North Dakota.

David spent the first 6 years of his career on the service side, gaining expert knowledge in various service lines including hydraulic fracturing, cementing, coil tubing and tools. At Ultra, David held various roles with increasing management responsibilities from 2005 to 2012.

David has obtained his BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Buffalo and his Executive MBA from the University of Denver.

cody duran-vice president of operations

Cody Duran joined Zavanna in August 2013 as the Completions Manager aiding in the transition to multi-well pad completions. Cody was promoted to Vice President of operations at the beginning of 2016. Cody successfully executed the start-up of Zavanna’s infill development program and recently took control of Zavanna’s Drilling program.

Cody was previously an Operations Engineer for Pioneer Natural Resources managing a 2,000+ well CBM field in the Raton Basin during a 300+ well per year Drilling/Completion phase. Additionally, Cody was Operations Manager over Uinta-Piceance assets during a divesture process. Cody began his career on the service side in the Williston Basin as lead engineer on 200+ fracs of early Elm Coulee Bakken exploration projects. Cody holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Refining from Colorado School of Mines in 2001.

travis pfaff-production manager

Travis Pfaff joined Zavanna in September 2013 as the Production Manager.

Travis was previously Production Engineer for the Development Team at Aera Energy focused on Ventura, San Ardo and East Cat Canyon assets. Prior to Aera, Travis was an Onsite Consultant for Ultra where he was focused on completions primarily overseeing frac’ing, workover rigs, standalone snubbing units and coil tubing units. Travis began his career on the service side gaining experience in pumping services, cementing matrix acidizing, sand control and frac’ing throughout the US in 5 Eastern States, Prudhoe Bay & Kenai Alaska and the Rockies. Travis holds a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Wyoming.

Ryan T. kackley-general Counsel & Vice President of Land

Ryan T. Kackley joined Zavanna in August 2014 as the Land Manager.  Mr. Kackley’s oil and gas career started at the GHK Company in Oklahoma City where he was focused on the Potato Hills natural gas field in Eastern Oklahoma, which was solely discovered and developed by GHK.  Mr. Kackley then moved on to Chesapeake Energy Corporation in Oklahoma City as a Landman and Title Attorney where he worked in the Fayetteville Shale play in Arkansas, the Anadarko Basin in Western Oklahoma and the Arkoma Basin in Eastern Oklahoma.  After Chesapeake, Mr. Kackley was a Northern Region Landman at Continental Resources, Inc. in Enid, Oklahoma focused on the Bakken/Three Forks play in the Williston Basin.  Mr. Kackley was responsible for a 9 rig drilling program in Continental’s Williston Prospect and helped Continental assemble 870,000 core net acres in the play via acreage/well trades, acquisitions and leasing during his tenure.  Immediately prior to joining Zavanna, Mr. Kackley was Land Manager for Kodiak Oil & Gas Corporation in Denver, Colorado.  During his time at Kodiak, Mr. Kackley was in charge of several large Williston Basin acquisitions, which included BTA Oil Producers, LLC, North Plains Energy, LLC and Liberty Resources, LLC.  Ryan was also in charge of a large divestiture to Emerald Oil, Inc. in McKenzie County, North Dakota. Mr. Kackley holds his B.A. in Public Affairs and Administration from the University of Oklahoma and his Juris Doctorate from Oklahoma City University School of Law.

Matt Ott-vice president of corporate development

Matt Ott joined Zavanna in February, 2017 as the Director of Business Development.  In this role, Matt is responsible for potential acquisition, divestiture, and merger opportunities for the company as well as managing the company's reserves.

Matt spent the first nine years of his career working for Venoco, Inc.  The first half of his career was based in California as an operations engineer working in multiple California basins including offshore and highly sensitive environments onshore.  From 2012 to 2016, Matt was based in the Denver office for Venoco working numerous projects in A&D, corporate strategy, and restructuring. 

Matt has obtained his B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines.
